Wilco, the blog

I just wanted to take this moment to share the information that I think Wilco might be the best american band ever. I am sure that i will recant that statement at some point...but good god i can listen to their music for days and days on end, and i've only ever had three of their albums (yankee hotel foxtrot, being there, a.m.) I highly reccomend that anyone who hasn't heard any of there music to go pick up a copy of one of them. Big ups to skash for burning me yhf. Also you could always go to pandora and enter "wilco" as your station and check out what they got, u can just skip over songs if they aren't wilco or doesn't sound good...there is a good chance that you will hear a good bit of bands called Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt...Wilco and Son Volt used to be Uncle Tupelo until the band broke up and formed the other two bands....but all three are bad ass....imagine if Wings and the Ringo Starr All Star band were both as good as The Beatles...

anyway this is what i have been listening to (a.m. and the pandora wilco station) enjoy....

also what have u guys been getting into musicly?

  1. Bunger, you couldn't be more correct.. Son Volt has been a defining band in my musical maturation. When I finally did my homework and found Uncle Tupelo a couple years ago, it only got better. It's a shame Jay Farrar (SV) and Jeff Tweedy couldn't keep it together and keep Tupelo afloat. However, if they had, Wilco and Son Volt would not have stepped out... Quite the catch-22, eh? (Side note: Both Wilco and Son Volt have albums coming out this summer/fall.. I cannot wait.)

I just found out about a musician named Dan Auerbach (myspace.com/danauerbachmusic) and have been hooked. He is the singer from a band called the Black Keys (also pretty rockin). But his solo effort is killer, and definitely worth attaining. Album is called "Keep it Hid".

And finally, I learned recently that I have been mispronouncing the name of one of my favorite artists of late - Bon Iver. The obvious way is saying 'Bon' the way you'd say the word 'on' (only with a B in front) and 'Iver' the same way as the later half of MacGyver. Turns out, the true pronunciation is "Bohn eevair", and the term is a French greeting of sorts indicating "Good Winter". Ain't that some shit...

  2. yea i heard conan say "bohhn eeiver" when he introduced him and i just thought he was being a goof...I saw ole dave barley when i was in lancaster last and odb reccommended that i check out "bohhn eeiver" to which i responded something to the effect of "don't pronounce it like a prick" we had a lengthy discussion about the pronunciation, as much as i like odb i think i am gonna keep being an ignorant american and calling him "bon iver" maybe one day i will call him bon bon iverson...like a scrupmtious mix of candy and point guards who shoot too much.
