Going South on Africa

So my contributions to this here nook in the wide expanse of the blogosphere have been - albeit far more than the majority of you all - rather insufficient as of late. My apologies. Or, you're welcome, depending on how you look at it.

Anyway, the main reason for my absence has been due almost entirely to my pretty hectic work schedule. As you all know, I am still waiting tables 5 nights a week at a restaurant called Union Jack's. It's pretty much the bastard child of Brickyard and Annie Bailey's. Ask Koehler, he actually visited me and saw it. (Lundy's been down to VA as well, just hasn't seen the restaurant.)

In addition, I picked up an unpaid internship (glamorous, eh?) at a nonprofit organization in DC called the Washington-Ireland Program, and also, its sister program called the South Africa-Washington Internship Program. Not going to get into all the details of them right now, but in all, it has been an awesome experience. So far, I have already met the ambassadors from Ireland and Northern Ireland, am scheduled to visit the Supreme Court building for a personal tour from Chief Justice Roberts, and in two days, will be attending a wine tasting at the South African Embassy.

The wine tasting has been a project that I have been co-in charge of planning. My internship is event planning stuff, and so, although it is indeed an unpaid internship, I am getting paid an $800 "consultant stipend" for my work. Here's a link to the website I basically built, outside of the coding and graphics.

It's crazy, who woulda thought I'd ever be trusted to be in charge of things?

Just thought I'd give a quick update on the goingson in these parts. Similar to Koehler's invite, I'm welcoming anyone interested in a weekend in DC. Bars are open til 3. That gives girls a whole extra hour to black out, if you follow my drift......
